The Reimagine Issue
Milwaukee Home & Fine Living Magazine
In July 2007, as the real estate market was already beginning to struggle, I conceived a special theme issue that celebrated recycling, creative adaptation and reuse, and put a positive spin on the austerity that was increasingly becoming a necessity for homeowners. I personally scouted and selected seven subjects, recruited additional collaborators, inaugurated new special sections to lead this fresh direction, and wrote much of the content myself.

Art World Hungers for Bav-Go

A Hoax

For the second issue of GUM Magazine, there were plans to run a series of photographs of artworks rendered in pancake batter. I proposed an elaborate history to justify the pancake art, created a fictional interview with an imaginary East German émigré called Bavaglio, and used the pancake art as an opportunity to poke gentle fun at the New York avant-garde scene. Surprisingly, a number of people were actually taken in by the deception and thought Bavaglio was an actual artist.

To commemorate the launch of our Stanley Kubrick issue, a party was proposed, and a custom beverage commissioned, thus requiring an invitation appropriate to the proceedings. I wrote the announcement and the description of the official cocktail in the style of Clockwork Orange author Anthony Burgess, adopting his lexicon and inimitable style.
